Lorry Ann Hawks (Sytek), who was born November 16, 1933 at Flint, MI, went home to God’s loving arms on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. The second oldest of five children, Lorry married Ralph Theodore Hawks on May 17, 1952 at Saint Matthew’s Church in Flint. They were high school sweethearts at Saint Matthew High School and were married for 69 years. They had 8 children, (5 boys and 3 girls) and have 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Lorry and her beloved husband lived in the Flint area for their entire married lives and also had a summer cottage in the Alpena area.
After graduating high school, Lorry worked as a secretary and clerk at several local businesses, at Holy Redeemer Elementary School library, drove school bus for Carman-Ainsworth Schools, was a Tupperware distributor, became a rural mail carrier for the USPS, and was the secretary/bookkeeper for their family excavating business, all while being a wife, mother, and homemaker.
Lorry attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for over 60 years, being a member of the Altar Society and a guild member of Our Lady of the Snows. She also sang in the church choir along with husband, Ralph. Lorry played the piano and the organ, but loved playing the accordion most.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Mary Sytek, and all of her siblings, Arthur Sytek, Mary Lou Kania, John Sytek, and James Sytek.
She leaves behind her husband, Ralph, daughters Deborah Grades (Thomas) and Pamela Payne (Jeffery), sons R. Jeffrey Hawks (Eleanor), Joseph Hawks (Carol), Christopher Hawks, Timothy Hawks (Janice), Michael Hawks, and daughter Michelle Campbell (Benny) along with all those grands and greats.
There will be a visitation held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church at Bristol and Grand Traverse before the funeral Mass on Tuesday, December 21st beginning at 10:00, mass at 11:00, then a service at the cemetery for interment of Lorry’s ashes. A dinner will follow for family and friends.
Lorry believed in giving back to her community and supported many charitable causes. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a contribution in Lorry’s name be made to Catholic Charities.
