John R. McElroy, age 93 passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. John was born August 22, 1928 in Marion, Ohio to the late Charles and Thula McElroy. John married the love of his life Joyce on August 12, 1950. He proudly served his country during the Korean war in the engineering battalion with the Army and Air Corp. He retired after 30 years at Consumer's Energy. John was one of the original founders of the Shrine Highlanders and an active member of Elf Khurafeh and Shrine Jesters. He was very active with the Shriner's Circus committee. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Grand Blanc. During the 1950's and 60's, John was part of the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corp. He also volunteered at Genesys Hospital as a courtesy driver. John was a wonderful man and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his son, Dale Gene McElroy; brother, Tom (Paula) McElroy; grandchildren, Lisa M. McElroy and Brenda (Tad Birdsall) McElroy; great grandchildren: Aiden and Jordyn; nieces and nephews: Becky, Andy and Katie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce McElroy and daughter-in-law, Nancy McElroy. Private family services will be held at the funeral home. A committal service for John will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 1:00 PM including Masonic Memorial Service and military honors at Evergreen Cemetery, 3415 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan.
