JOHNSTON, DENNIS REID age 72, of Flint, MI. September 30, 1945 to June 3, 2018, son of Everett and Mary (Tippett) Johnston. Brother to Kathleen (Buz) Betzoldt. Dennis was born and raised in Detroit, MI. He married Linda Sommer on March 8, 1969, and they raised their three children in Flint: Emily (Don) Wheat, Sarah (Ron) Petrach and Reid (Lauren) Johnston. Dennis worked for Citizens Bank for 34 years, starting in 1969 in the coin vault until his retirement in 2003 at which time he was Senior Vice-president of Consumer Loans. During his time at the bank, he earned a Master’s degree at University of Virginia. Dennis made many lasting friendships during his career at Citizens. Before starting at the bank, Dennis worked for Bell Telephone as a cable splicer. In his younger years, Dennis was a avid runner, participating in the very first 1978 Detroit Free Press Marathon and in many other races. Another of Dennis’s interests was photography. He enjoyed taking photos as well as appreciating the work of others. Dennis always loved music. His taste ranged from oldies and rock and roll to Japanese instrumentals, but his favorite was Scottish bagpipes. Above all, Dennis’s true love was his family, his beloved wife Linda of 49 years and their three children as well as seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Kara, Kayla, Grace, Charles, Anna and Henry. Also, two great-grandchildren Oliver and Jack and a nephew Jason. Dennis touched the lives of all of his family and friends with his profound generosity and guidance. He was example to all around him of honesty and integrity. He will be remembered for his charisma and humor, fair and kind ways, and unfailing optimism, even through many years of illness. He was a friend to all and will be deeply missed. A private memorial service will be held at later date. Arrangements by the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI.
