She was born May 12, 1932, in Birmingham Alabama; father Dewey E. Copeland (deceased), mother Sudie Ellard Copeland (deceased).
She was the beloved wife of Wendell A. Freeman. Mae told her family that her mother was worried that she was too young to get married, but her daddy said they’d better let her marry Wendell before someone else got him. It appears her daddy was right they were married 75 years.
Mae was an active member of Baptist churches in Alabama and Florida her entire life, most recently the Trinity Baptist Church in Apopka. She worked as a technician fabricating semiconductors and other electronics for Piezo Technology and then Educational Computer. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothing for her children when they were young and then quilts for her grandchildren. She loved to play golf and other sports. She enjoyed music, especially performances by Wendell’s band and gospel quartet.
She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and new great-great granddaughter Stevie Mae, including attending MANY sporting events and performances.
She was preceded in death by her father Dewey E. Copeland, mother Sudie Ellard Copeland, brother Dewey Eugene “Gene” Copeland, sister Roberta Annette “Annette” Copeland Hulsey, brother Joseph Ellard “Joe” Copeland, and her grandson Stephen Keller “Steve” Pilcher.
Mae is survived by her husband Wendell, her children David L. Freeman (Terry B. Freeman), Doris A. Holland, Dottie J. Pilcher (Jan K. Pilcher), 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., graveside at 12:00 p.m. Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
