Judith Yvonne Reid Fyffe was born August 10, 1943 to Minnie and Clifford Reid in Portland Cottage, Clarendon, Jamaica West Indies. She attended Portland Cottage all age school, Middleton Primary School and Kingston Technical High School. Judith was very athletic and involved with the 4H Club in Jamaica, competing each year for her parish of St. Thomas and representing them in pressure cooking vegetables, as well as baking. Her desire was to be a Home Economics teacher and to instruct young girls and boys on modern etiquette in her village.
Judith loved and embraced people from all walks of life, especially the less fortunate. Her love for people was extraordinary and she captivated everyone that crossed her path with her mothering nature and kindness. She was indiscriminate in her love for people, a great listener, practical counselor, generous loan officer and frank talker. One of her steadfast principles was to never hold a grudge or malice against anyone. She just LOVED her family and people!
In 1964 Judith married her childhood sweetheart, Neville Lloyd Fyffe Sr., and their union produced five beautiful children. Judith’s lifelong friend, Veronica Ramhi, arranged a sponsorship for her to migrate to the United States in 1971 to seek better opportunities for her family. She was always a hard worker and very industrious. Her first job was working with the Feldman and Gershwin families taking great care of their children, which created a lifelong bond that has never been broken. In January 1976, she began a 30 year career at Morris View Nursing Home, where she met wonderful folks from all over the Caribbean. This prompted her to start a partner in which she served as the banker. Through this endeavor, many of her friends and family members were able to buy their first homes or cars utilizing this African traditional saving method.
Introduced to the Seventh-day Adventist message by Mancy Bennett while working at Morris View Nursing Home, Judith began attending the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of the Crossroads in East Orange, New Jersey. She accepted the Three Angels Message and was baptized on December 23, 1978 by Pastor Roy Brown, whom she loved and called the good shepherd. They remained friends and he always checked in on her. The Pathfinder Club was Judith’s passion and she always made sure that the young people were well taken care of, whether at church, camp meeting or inviting them to her home for food and fellowship. She started a special group called the golden girls who met regularly on Sabbath for a delicious meal at her home. Pastor Samuel Campbell, an impactful pastor/leader of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of the Oranges, and Judith became very good friends and eventually neighbors in Apopka, where their friendship blossomed.
A dutiful daughter, exceptional wife, wonderful mother, magnificent grandmother, loving sister and a true friend- Judith lived a life that touched many people and we will never forget her pleasant disposition. She has now completed the circle of life and is waiting to hear the voice of her savior.
