John Harold Fitzgerald

John Harold (Fitz) Fitzgerald, 84, of Orlando, Fl.; went home to be with the Lord on Monday January 21, 2013. Fitz was born on March 24, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pa.; and grew up in New Jersey. At the age of seventeen Fitz joined the Merchant Marines. While stationed in Philadelphia, Pa.; Fitz met his beloved wife Janet. They married in Germany in 1954 and were married for fifty eight years. He was a proud member of both the United States Army and the Air Force and retired after twenty years of dedicated service. Upon retirement from the Military Fitz joined the Pine Castle Fire Department # 51 Orlando, Fl.; Fitz was a resident of Orange County for forty seven years where he proudly served his community as a Fire Marshal. He was a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators and a longtime member of St. Mary of the Angels Episcopal Church. He is survived by his loving wife Janet and daughter in law Carol, grandson Ronnie, and great granddaughter Maggie, and great grandson Drake, adopted daughter Marti. Fitz was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Minnett and son Peter Joseph. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Episcopal Church in Orlando. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mary of the Angels or Cornerstone Hospice. Woodlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
