Joan Frazier grew up in Ocoee. She loved nature and spent her childhood days playing in the woods with her trusty dog, Puggy, by her side. When she wasn’t outside, she could be found behind her electric organ, singing, and picking out songs or writing new ones. She grew up and always remained a devoted daughter to her mother Ida May Fraizer and sister to Richard Frazier. She was equal parts mama bear and best friend to her daughter Joan Maritato. She was thrilled to finally have a son in Patrick Maritato and loved him as her own. But never did Joan shine so brightly as when she became a grandmother. She adored her two grandsons Anthony and Jordan and cherished the opportunities to take them on adventures. She understood how to be a grandma to boys and their bond was forged in the outdoors. She loved good food, good company, and long conversations. Joan was a lover of music, had a beautiful singing voice and taught herself to play the guitar. She passed on her love of music to her cherished grandsons. Joan was an avid reader and was always in the middle of a new thriller. For close to 30 years, she worked as a medical transcriptionist and took great pride in her work. She loved her work-family and they loved her right back.
In 2012 Joan was diagnosed with breast cancer and fought it for over a decade. In that time, she never complained or felt sorry for herself. She was jovial and cherished each day she had with her family. She was able to take quite a few family trips with her mother and daughter’s family. Memories were made that will last a lifetime. She understood that each day over these past 11 years were a gift from God. Joan was a generous and compassionate woman. She regularly donated to charity and wanted the best for everyone. On September 24, 2023 Joan passed away. She was a tender soul who will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. She will be remembered as a fiercely loyal grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend.
A a celebration of life for Joan will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
