Maxine was born in Danville, Illinois, on July 12, 1921, to Ira and Mayme Jones. She grew up in Danville, and married Richard Robbins, of Chicago, there on Sept. 7, 1947. They lived in Mt. Prospect, IL, and Springfield, IL, where they raised their daughters Nancy and Jane. Maxine and Dick moved to Winter Haven in 1980 and enjoyed retirement there until Dick’s death in 2003. To be closer to her daughters, Maxine moved to Gainesville, FL, in 2005, then to Orlando in 2010.
While her girls were growing up, Maxine was active in the PTA, Girl Scouts and Vacation Bible School. She loved spending time with her family and friends and entertained them often in her home. She was especially fond of celebrating holidays with her extended family. Maxine was an excellent cook and flower gardener.
Maxine is survived by her daughters Nancy McGuffey (Mike) and Jane Adams (Steve); granddaughters Deb McGuffey and Katie McGuffey (Andy Boegel), and brother Ira Jones (Barbara); nieces Arlene Neill, Carol Brown and Kay Dalby, and nephew Gary Robinson. She was preceded in death by sisters Annabelle Neel and Irene Robinson and brother Arnold Jones.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 5, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Vitas Charitable Fund, Vitas Hospice Care, 2201 Lucien Way, Suite 100, Maitland, FL 32751, or the First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven, 637 6th St. NW, Winter Haven, FL, 33881.
