Edmond B Moses, Jr., better known as “Ed”, was born in Orlando, FL, to proud parents Edmond and Ruth Moses on October 17, 1930. They attended First Baptist Church Orlando, now Downtown Baptist, where he was a Royal Ambassador and accepted Jesus at the age of nine. He attended Hillcrest Elementary, Memorial Junior High, and Orlando Senior High. After a year at Emory University and then obtaining his Pharmacy degree from UF, he spent a very proud four years in the United States Navy, serving as a Lieutenant on the battleship USS New Jersey. During the seventeen years he spent working at the family owned and operated Moses Rexall Drugs stores, he met and married Missy. They had a 6-week honeymoon in Europe, and returned to start a family, bringing Joy, Mary Ann, and Chip in to the world.
His mother and both grandmothers were devoted to missions, so it was not surprising that he went on a summer mission’s trip to Nigeria and Tanganyika in 1968. He was later called to full time missions and after a year at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, was appointed by the then Foreign Mission Board to serve in Nigeria in 1970. The Biafran War and lack of visas caused them to choose Rhodesia as a country of service instead, and he was the pharmacist and hospital Administrator at Sanyati Baptist Hospital for many years before serving in South Africa, Bophuthatswana, and then again in Zimbabwe with Mozambique refugees. In his spare time, he planted churches and discipled other men. He retired after 26 years on the field, right back in his hometown of Orlando. Ten years ago, they moved to Westminster Towers where he continued to tell others about Jesus, speaking in chapel, visiting the health center, and serving communion.
He is survived by his daughters Joy Baxley (husband John) and Mary Ann, daughter in law, Lori, and five grandchildren: Joshua and Julia Baxley, and Sam, Mia, and Gloria Moses. He also has a precious sister, Helen (husband Ray), sister-in-law, Patsy Moses, and many nieces and nephews who have walked closely with us during this journey, along with countless other brothers and sisters in Christ.
