He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 14, 1926 to the late Clarence & Lydia Schlesing Behr.
Ed joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 at the age of 17. He was involved in the Japanese Invasion of Tarawa, and then Pearl Harbor. Ed was able to use his carpentry gifts in the Service; and, this same craftsmanship led him into a long, prestigious, career in building construction and management. The most notable was his Disney career, where he worked for over 30 years sharing in the construction of Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Euro Disney. He met and married his wife Susan in 1972 and they continued their careers together while raising Colleen, Nadine, and Andrea. Ed was a remarkable father to the girls. He always had a story or a joke to tell, and they always said, “There’s nothing Papa can’t do.” He loved to sail, was an avid cyclist, and loved travel. One of his greatest joys was cheering on his many grandchildren at their sporting events. Ed was always there for his family and friends, and they will miss him and continue to celebrate him with all of their hearts.
Edgar is survived by his loving wife, Susan J. Behr; children, Steve & Tracey Behr, Colleen & David Phelps, Nadine & Bruce Hatfield, Andrea & Steve Piotraczk; and grandchildren, Bryan Behr, Chad & Shelly Whitaker, Jeff & Jennifer Whitaker, Jenny Houghton, Vanessa Wallace, Grace Kearney, Lindsey & Brett Moore, Kevin & Amanda Phelps, Morgan Hatfield, Makenzie & David Picon, Jarred Bell, Jacob & Ally Piotraczk, Lauren Piotraczk; and, 23 great-grandchildren.
