My mother was Billie McCrary and she was the only child of Rolla and Zola McCrary. I grew up with members of the McCrary family coming and going out my grandparents home in Sweetwater, TX so I have wonderful memories of many of our relatives. Oliver and Mildred were frequent visitors and I heard fun stories of their 3 boys and their adventures. I only had the chance to see Don a few times but it always felt like I had known him and Nancy forever. Last summer , we were in Orlando and we had lunch with the two of them. When we were leaving he opened the car door for me and said. “I don’t say good bye, but  I say see you later.”  Because we share a common faith, I take great comfort that we will see Don later in heaven. 

Always enjoyed talking Gator Football with Don and the family. I’ll never forget this gem of a restaurant we found in Gainesville before the FL/FSU game :-)

Don was a role model for all us young engineers fresh out of college and starting our careers at Martin Marietta back in the early 80’s. He was kind, fun loving, a talented engineer, and a devoted family man. The pic of the softball team always makes me smile. We will miss you Don. 

The Ortiz family is heartbroken over the loss of this wonderful man.  Daddy Don has been a fixture in our family through our loving relationship with his wife, Nancy. She helped us when we needed it the most - caring for each of our 3 children when they were very young. When they moved on to preschool, the McCrary family never left our hearts. They became a second family to us.  This past year we were able to reconnect at a different level and we really enjoyed every moment that we shared with them. Just this past Spring, Don learned the fundamentals of water polo very quickly and spent 2 days helping run game tables for a high school tournament. Don lived his life with his heart on his sleeve - he loved his family deeply, he loved life, and the Ortiz family will miss him greatly - especially his hearty laugh! 

So sad to hear of Don’s passing. Very thankful that he was with his extended family at the time and in a very beautiful place, Glacier National Park.  I met his dad, Oliver, when he visited my granddad, Paul McCrary, Sr., one summer (1960’s). Don’s features resembles my granddad and returns some very happy memories for me. Such fond memories of Don and his kind and gracious mentorship to many of us young engineers on the Apache program at Martin Marietta. He taught us to work hard and make time for fun afterwards.

I grew up with Donnie and his brothers in our neighborhood in Groton. We had a great time playing outside games mostly. It looks like he was very successful, which I'm not surprised. My prayers go out to his wife and family.

Donnie McCrary was my brother from another mother, my cousin, part of my family  too.  He always had a smile,  every time we got together.  God blessing be with his family, my prayers are with you.


Marching band with Don is a good memory from high school - he was a great drummer and a good friend of my brother.  He inspired me to take up drums.  I remember the smile.  Sounds like he led a happy and successful life.  I'm glad.  

What a lucky bunch the McCrary’s are, to be stuck with Don as a  husband, father, grandfather, uncle or brother. But for those of us that are friends, we chose him (or he chose us)! What we would all give to shoot one more game of pool, play another round of golf, toss another softball, or raise another glass with Don. I will miss him terribly, but will always be able to love and laugh at our many memories spent with him!
