Woodrow “Wilson” Monroe, 81, of Avondale, AZ. peacefully passed away on February 12, 2022, surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with Covid-19. Woodrow “Wilson” Monroe also known as Brother was born November 23, 1940, in Woodville, MS. to the late Estelle Bynum-Monroe and Woodrow Monroe. When he was a young man, he relocated from Louisiana to Illinois.
During his time in Chicago, Wilson united in holy matrimony for 20+ years to Maurice Wright Monroe on November 23, 1963. Through their union, he was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Tiffany Anne Monroe and Tamika Alease Monroe, and they loved him dearly.
Upon moving to Chicago, Wilson was hired at Walgreens, where he was promoted to Store Manager which enabled him to create job opportunities for others. Later in his career, he went on to become a professional truck driver for several years and retired in 2003. Shortly after retirement, Wilson moved back home to Woodville, MS. While retired, Wilson had time to pursue his love of fishing and gardening. He was also an excellent gardener, there was nothing he couldn’t grow - from grapes, bell peppers, tomatoes, okra, greens, all the above! He was also a consummate fisherman, catching some of the best fish you could ever eat from the Mississippi River to Lake Michigan!
He spent the last part of his time here on earth with his daughters in Arizona, where he was able to enjoy watching his grandson Justin play basketball and soak in the sun!
Wilson will always be remembered as a family man and people person. He loved hosting parties, bringing people together to eat, drink, laugh and listen to music by his favorite artist, Sonny Boy Williamson, while playing spades and Bid Whist.
He leaves to cherish fond memories of life, his loving two daughters Tiffany and Tamika. Plus, his loving grandson Justin, whom he called “Ain’t no Sunshine”. His two brothers, Sam and Johnny Monroe preceded him in death. He is survived by three sisters, Eva Monroe, Sarah Wilson, and Shirley Durrah, including a host of nieces, nephews (Eugene “Geno” Wilson), cousins, friends and partner Dorothy Monroe (byway of Sam Monroe).
