Ernest "Jay" Lee Walters, 88, of Avondale, AZ went home to be with the Lord on September 9th, 2015. Ernest was born in Kansas to loving parents, Ernest and Jewell. He served honorably in the United States Army. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara; his three children, son James (Mary Kay) Walters, daughter Donna (Doug) Sutton, and daughter Karen (Bob) Frey; sisters Helen (Royer), Ethel (Munroe), Mary Lou (Johnson), and is preceded in death by sister Lois (Dotson). Ernest had 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He spent his entire life as a skilled brick mason, and was dedicated to volunteering at numerous churches and schools as well as the homes of many friends and family members. In 1988 he was awarded “Layman of the Year” from the First Church of God in Indiana. His generosity knew no bounds, as he always put the needs of others before his. He loved children, especially his beloved grandchildren. When not serving others, he could be found on the nearest golf course. Golf was a passion for Ernest. In fact, he enjoyed three holes-in-one during his lifetime!
We will celebrate his life on September 19th, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home at 926 South Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ, 85338 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to National Parkinson's Foundation or Hospice of the Valley.
