Born in Algona, Iowa, on February 8, 1941, Richard was the son of Walter and Irene Schreiber. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings—Kath, Robert, Russell, and Darlene. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; his son, Timothy; his grandsons, Logan and Jacob; and his two sisters, Arleen and Mary.
A lifelong educator, Richard dedicated his career to shaping young minds. He taught mathematics in multiple school districts, including Elkader High School, Harlan High School, and the Agua Fria Union District in Arizona. He also shared his love for learning with college students as a professor at Glendale Community College and Estrella Mountain College.
Beyond the classroom, Richard’s passion for coaching enriched the lives of many young athletes. He coached football, basketball, track and field, and girls’ golf in both Iowa and Arizona. Notably, he and fellow coach Jim helped establish the first wrestling program at Agua Fria High School, a lasting contribution to the school’s athletic legacy.
After retiring from teaching, Richard embraced new ventures, becoming the proud owner of the Country Green Golf Course and later a co-owner of S & T Golf Carts, LLC. His entrepreneurial spirit and love of golf brought him great joy, as did his interactions with the many people he met along the way.
Richard’s family and friends will remember him as a man who lived life fully. Whether enjoying a friendly poker game, sharing a good conversation, or offering a helping hand to those in need, Richard had a warm and generous spirit. His laughter, kindness, and unwavering support will be missed by all who knew him.
