Decell Hudson, 101, of Avondale, Arizona departed to his heavenly home on February 14th, 2021. He was born on October 18th, 1919 in Yazoo City, Mississippi, and was one of nine children born to Will and Annie Hudson. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during World War II. In 1938, he moved from Yazoo City Mississippi to Chicago Illinois where he attended Trade School to learn to weld. Decell worked many jobs throughout his life but was most proud of his position working for The Roosevelt Hotel, where he would retire from in 1991. Decell’s spiritual foundation started in Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church under the guidance of Rev. Clinkscale. He was a devoted follower of our Lord and enjoyed sharing his love and passion for the Lord with all those he encountered. While he was not a member of a Church in Arizona, that did not stop him from living his life for the Lord. Decell had a zest for life and lived his life on his own terms. He loved to travel, especially to Europe, cook, bake and host parties. Never one to keep idle Decell spent his retirement making “inventions” to make his daily life easier and more fun. He decked out his walker with working lights, African statues, a horn, and more. He leaves to celebrate his life, a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He awaited in heaven by his parents, his siblings, and other family members. A visitation will take place on Friday, February 26th at 1:00 pm with a funeral service at 2:00 pm, at Thompsons Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Road, Goodyear, AZ 85338. Decell will be laid to rest at The National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona
