Our beautiful and free spirited friend, Evelyn Collazo–Walker, was born on March 24th 1951 and raised in New York City, in a close-knit family that included her three brothers, Gregory, Freddie and Angelo, Jr. and their loving mother, Martha. Evelyn attended Junior High School #52 and Morris High School in the Bronx. She attended St. Roch’s Catholic Church throughout her childhood and had a close relationship with The Lord.
A dedicated student, Evelyn attended State University at Stony Brook, NY and graduated in 1974, as a Registered Nurse (BSN). She gave birth to her beloved daughter, Melinda Sweitzer–Green, on October 6, 1974. Evelyn loved being a mother and took great pleasure and pride in raising Melinda. Evelyn worked in the oncology field in New York City.
In January 1979, she relocated to California in search of her dream for a better life. Evelyn continued to work in her field in Los Angeles, CA. Committed to her profession in 1998, she completed a master’s degree in nursing and received her Nurse Practitioner Certificate. Devoted to healing Evelyn volunteered in various community projects in the hope of making a positive impact on diverse and underserved populations of Southern California.
The happiest changes in her life were the births of her grandchildren, Mark (Markie), Jr. and Gabrielle (Gabby) Green. She loved them dearly and was very proud of her grandchildren.
Evelyn moved to Arizona in 2006, which ultimately culminated in her meeting Jim Walker in 2008. She told friends, “There is something very special about this man, he treats me like a queen”. They married on Valentine’s Day in 2009. Evelyn and Jim enjoyed visiting family and friends, traveling, and volunteering in community and church functions.
An intelligent, beautiful, vivacious woman, Evelyn enjoyed and loved her Puerto Rican cultural heritage; from the food to the music to dancing salsa; a true a Boricua at heart! She had a passion for art and painting. It became her hobby and passion.
On May 20th at 12:05 pm, Evelyn Collazo-Walker passed away to be with her Lord and Savior. As a true believer in Christ, Evelyn now resides in a place where there is no pain or suffering with her beloved husband Jim.
