Eric Barker, 90, of Avondale, Az., died on January 25, 2015, in Avondale, Az. He was born in Wigan, England on March 19, 1924 to Jim and Ellen Barker. He is survived by his wife Irene of Avondale and his son and daughter-in-law Brian and Tina Barker both of Goodyear; his brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Jean Barker of Warrington England; 3 grandchildren Katie Garcia of Avondale, Seth Barker of Goodyear and Rachel Barker of Phoenix; 3 great grandchildren Keira, Richard and Dominik Garcia, all of Avondale. He served in Her Royal Majesty's Service in the navy from 1944 to 1947. In 1948 he and Irene moved to the United States and settled in Bartonville, IL where he worked at Keystone Steel & Wire for 34 years as a tool & die maker. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was in the church choir because of his love for music. In 2014 he and Irene moved to Avondale, Az to be near their family. Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd. Goodyear AZ on Friday Jan 30, 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 918 S. Litchfield Rd on Saturday, Jan 31, at 10:00 a.m. officiated by the Rev Jeff Gallen. Burial will be at West Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale. Eric will be dearly missed for years to come but will always be remembered for his charismatic spirit, unwavering loyalty, deep Christian faith and singing The Alleluia Chorus in his booming bass voice.
