Dorothy Jane Turner, 87, of Goodyear, AZ entered into eternal rest on August 10, 2013. She was born August 16, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Arthur Roberts and Mary Frances Grubbs. Dorothy served as a civilian employee of the American Red Cross during WWII. She was an active member of the AME Church and served as church secretary and Sunday School Teacher at the Lee Chapel AME Church in Cincinnati, OH. She was a member of the senior choir for years at Turner Memorial AME Church, Stewardess member, Reid club member -all in Washington DC; and she was a choir member of My Father’s House Church in Peoria, Arizona. She is survived by her son Kenneth H. Brooks; daughters Cherra A. Lowery, Jerri L. Brooks-Hailes, Kelli D. Brooks; sister Rayola Coleman; brother Lorenzo Roberts; 8 grandchildren: Roland Carey Jr., Kenneth Brooks II, Stanley Hailes Jr., Jamie Lowery, Crystal Hailes, Jessica Shipley, Danielle Shipley, Erika Hailes; and 5 great grandchildren: Kenneth Brooks III, Roland Carey III, Crystal Brooks, Logan Lowery, Mason Lowery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evan P. Turner, and her previous husband and father of her children, George W. Brooks; her brother Ernest, father Arthur Roberts, mother Mary Frances Grubbs; step-father Raymond Grubbs, step-mother Anna Grubbs; and grandmother Lena Bradley. A memorial service will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Skyway Church of the West Valley, 14900 W. Van Buren St., Goodyear, AZ.
