David Lee Sparks, age 73, died on September 27 at home in Buckeye, surrounded by family, following a months-long, amazingly-courageous struggle with lung cancer. David was born on 5/25/1940 to David Smith Sparks and Marie Christopher Sparks in St. Louis, MO. He lived an interesting life with experiences ranging from Missouri to Alaska, California and finally to Arizona.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Stephanie; son Michael (Colleen) and two grandchildren, Meleah and Jake of Portland; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Bill and JoEllyn Savage of Buckeye; Scott and Barbara Sangsland of Claremont, CA; and Jeff and Val Sangsland of New Berlin, WI, extended family including nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, his many friends in Buckeye, California and elsewhere. He also will be missed dearly by his many, many golf partners and his new-found pals who shared his passion for rubber-band-powered model aircraft.
David was often described by family and friends as a medical miracle because of the way that he lived such a remarkable and productive life following a debilitating stroke in 1983.
Services will be private, but a memorial for all of his friend and family will be held later in the fall. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice of the Valley would be appreciated. Condolences can be sent to www.thompsonfuneralchapel.com.
