Beverly Ann Thompson, age 79 of Goodyear, AZ died February 1, 2020 in Goodyear, AZ. She was born February 7, 1940 in New York City, NY to Charles and Ruby Evans. She was a true New Yorker: stubborn, sassy, and a little bit nosy. She loved to gossip and knew everything that was happening in the projects where she lived. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and had beautiful handwriting. She liked to color and make little crafts, often including her grandchildren in her activities. She was a good cook and was famous for her fried chicken and potato salad. An avid collector of knick-knacks, she had an impressive ashtray collection and loved her glass figurines. She liked to gamble, especially playing the slots. A good afternoon was spent watching Jerry Springer and Friday evenings were reserved for WWE Smackdown.
Beverly loved children! She was a foster parent for the New York City foster system. She welcomed many, many children into her “projects penthouse” top floor apartment where she loved and nurtured them and nursed them back to health. A few of them were formerly adopted into her family, but each child found a special place within her heart. When grandchildren came along, she loved them, too and helped their parents to raise them.
Beverly is survived by her daughters, Debra D. Thompson Cancel, Debbra A. Thompson Martinez; and Frances V. Thompson; son, Maurice E. Thompson, Jr.; brother, Charles D. Evans; sister-in-law, Gina Evans; nine grandchildren, Carlos, Christopher, Darryn, Zachary, Thatiyannah, Nevaeh, Jeremiah, Tiana, and Atreyu; three great-grandchildren, Jayiah, Jalen, and Brayden; and nephew, Bruce A. Evans and his children, Samantha and Spencer. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Evans, father Charles L. Evans. and her sister, Yvonne M. Reese. Beverly loved everyone including her Michael, Providencia, Jessie and so many more. You know who you are and how Beverly touched or impacted your life. Gone but never forgotten . Condolences for the family may be left below.
