John Rutledge Davidson Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted servant of the Lord, peacefully went to be with our Lord on December 10, 2024, in Portland, Tennessee. Born on August 29, 1942, in Nashville, Tennessee, John was the cherished son of the late John Sr. and Bessie Davidson. His life was a testament to faith, love, and dedication, leaving a legacy cherished by all who knew him.
John spent his formative years in Petersburg, Tennessee, where he developed a strong foundation of faith and family values. In 1952, the Davidson family moved to Nashville, where John graduated from Hume Fogg High School in 1960. These early years were marked by a deepening of his faith, which would become the guiding light throughout his life.
After high school, John embarked on a career as a DMT pipefitter with DuPont at the Old Hickory, Tennessee site. For 40 years, he dedicated himself to his work, earning the respect and admiration of his co-workers. He retired in 2004, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication.
John's life was enriched by his unwavering faith and active involvement in The River Church in Portland, Tennessee. As a long-standing member, he found joy and purpose in serving his community and sharing the love of Christ with others. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and guidance. He was known for his gentle spirit and his ability to uplift those around him, always ready with a comforting word or a helping hand.
One of John's greatest joys was his suspender collection, known for wearing a different pair daily. This quirky passion brought smiles to many faces and was a testament to his joyful spirit and unique personality. For the past 20 years, he played Santa Claus, spreading joy and laughter to children and adults alike. His warm smile and kind heart made him a beloved figure in the community, embodying the spirit of giving and love that he held dear.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Tommy Davidson. He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Debbie, and his brother Robert Davidson of Madison. John's legacy lives on through his children, John A. (Tanya) Davidson of Nashville and Angie (Terry) Russell of Portland, who carry forward his values of love, faith, and dedication. His nine grandchildren, Ambera (T.J.) Rudquist of Nashville, Christopher Davidson of Nashville, Crystal Davidson of Gallatin, Thomas Ross of Kansas City, Ashley Russell of Clarksville, Allen Russell of Clarksville, Cassie Russell of Cross Plains, Lazarus Hibbett, and Allan Hibbett, and 12 great-grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment he was blessed to spend with them.
