Zachary Jason Myers, fondly known as “Zach”, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the too-young age of 26. He was born in Columbus, IN but moved to Minnetonka, MN when he was six years old. He currently resided in Baton Rouge, LA. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his parents Lorraine & Martin Myers, his brother Nathan Myers and sister-in-law Amanda, uncles and aunts Derek and Soo Wait, and Geoffrey and Ellen Wait, numerous family members and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents; Peter & Helga Wait and Harold & Nancy Myers.
Zach attended Hopkins public schools in Minnetonka, MN, where he excelled at making friends and becoming a natural leader. He captained the Alpine Ski team and was an avid mountain biker, proudly representing the Hopkins Royals, and maintaining his cycling hobby even in the LA climate. He enjoyed all music, and became a skilled jazz trombone player through school bands and the MN Youth Jazz ensembles. He took part in multiple technology-related team sports, notably the Hopkins Technocrats FIRST Robotics team. He graduated from Hopkins High School in 2016.
Zach attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where he received his Bachelors of Science in Metallurgical Engineering in 2021. He moved to Baton Rouge to work in his field of metallurgical engineering, and most recently had been employed at Pearce Group in Prairieville, LA, as their foundry metallurgist. He relished technical challenges and was a gifted problem-solver.
Above all else, Zach treasured family and friends. He was a devoted and loving son, brother, nephew and grandson, and fiercely loyal to his friends. Although Zach’s time here with us was brief he leaves a legacy of love and memories that will be cherished forever.
Family, friends and colleagues are invited to attend a Celebration of Zach’s Life on Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 5:30 pm till 8:00pm at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy. Gonzales, LA 70737.
