“Miss Rita” to so many people was born January 2, 1924. Rita was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister and friend to many. Rita loved to dance and listen to swamp pop music. She loved to cook and made a legendary crawfish bisque, oyster rice dressing and coconut cake. Rita was an avid gardener who loved flowers and colorful flowerbeds filled her yard every year. She won “Garden of the Month” many times. She loved to travel and visited many places including Germany, Canada and most of the US. Rita was a hard worker. In her early life, she lived and worked on a farm alongside her first husband. Rita later completed her GED. She went on to complete her cosmetology schooling, earned her license and ran her own business “Rita’s Beauty Shop” for many years. She was the 4th of 10 children. Coming of age in the depression and WW II, Rita was a part of the greatest generation. She will be remembered for her strong will, but at the same time her loving heart. Rita was a survivor, sharp as a tack and never missed a beat. She loved life. Rita had a strong Catholic faith. She grew in St. Amant where she attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church. As a resident of Gonzales, she served in the Catholic Daughters of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church. Rita is survived by her children: Albert Roussel (Ginger), Ted Roussel (Lisa) and Sharla Roussel (Paul Malphurs); grandchildren Paula Crowe, Jarrod Roussel, Ryan Roussel and Lani Cronan; 10 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, 2 sisters and many nieces and nephews.
