Lucy Babin Richey

Lucy Babin Richey, a native of Ascension Parish, and a long-time resident on the Diversion Canal, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the age of 76. She was a mother, grandmother, and friend who will be greatly missed. She loved being on the river, dancing, and living life to the fullest! She was most known for her kind and loving heart. If you knew Lucy, you knew she never met a stranger and was known as “The Queen of the River.” She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her life partner, Ken Edenfield; four sons, Ron Richey, Shane Richey, Cory Richey, and Reggie Richey (Michelle); 6 grandchildren, Brittany (Bailee Lipps), Kelsey (Seth Benoit), Dylan, Devin, Emma, Blaycen; a sister, Sherry Babin Borne, along with godchildren De'Sha Babin, Brad Rouyea and Suzanne Bourgeois, and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Ronnie Richey; her parents, Wilson “Gro” Babin and Pearl Bourgeois Babin; one brother, Claude John Babin, two sisters, Patricia Babin Gautreaux, and Delores Babin Rouyea.

Family and friends are invited to attend a night wake for Lucy on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy, Gonzales, Louisiana 70737. A visitation will occur Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Theresa Of Avila Catholic Church, 1022 N Burnside Ave, Gonzales, Louisiana 70737 with a Mass of Christian Burial will at 11:00 AM. Lucy will be laid to rest in Cornerview Cemetery, 38161 Cornerview Rd., Gonzales, Louisiana 70737. The pallbearers will be Seth Benoit, Trent Richey, Trey Richey, Joey Primeaux, Cliff Kliebert, and Blaycen Richey. The honorary pallbearers are Myron Bourgeois, Eric Johnson and Vandy Huskey.
