Lawrence “Speedy” Gonzales, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. He was a native and lifetime resident of Gonzales, La. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lois (Guitreau) Gonzales, 3 daughters, Adine Gonzales (Keg) Gauthreaux, Sabrina Gonzales, and Melissa Gonzales (Terrell) Moran; 2 sons Mark (Mindi) Gonzales and Gregory Gonzales (deceased); 4 brothers, Claude, Lucien, Donald, Patrick; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer Smith Faulkner, Devon P. Lambert, Darren M. Lambert, Jamie Moran White, Jada M. Moran, Mallory A. Gonzales, Mason A. Gonzales, Crystal and Laci Gonzales; 7 great-grandchildren, Lucy and Avery Lambert, Peyton and Luke Lambert, Addison and Aidyn Faulkner and Baylor White. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Vern and Adine (Mayers) Gonzales; 1 son, Gregory L. Gonzales; and 2 brothers, Joseph and Lee Vern Gonzales, Jr. Lawrence was a Veteran of the United States Army stationed in the Los Angeles, CA area in the early 60’s. After returning home he worked as a boilermaker with Local 582 till his retirement in 2003. During this time, he enjoyed bottle digging and collecting old bottles with his brothers. After retirement, his interest turned toward restoring and showing Ford Model A’s. He and Lois were members of the Red Stick Model “A” Club where they met and kept great friends. He also looked forward every year to alligator hunting season where he hunted almost daily. If you ever needed to find him, he was always in the outside in the yard doing something. Family and friends are invited to attend a night wake for Lawrence that will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy, Gonzales, LA 70737. A visitation will occur Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am with a Christian burial Mass beginning at 11:00 am at St. Mark Catholic Church, 42021 Hwy. 621, Gonzales, LA.
