Elie Joseph “EJ” Hidalgo, age 70, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024. He was born to the late Mabel Laiche Hidalgo. EJ dedicated many years to his work as a pipefitter and welder with Local 198 and Ormet, and later as a Maintenance Supervisor at Noranda-Almatis, retiring in 2018. His love for his work and his deep friendships with colleagues lasted beyond his career. EJ was well known for his dedication to family and his joy for life. A loving and devoted father and grandfather, EJ was passionate about spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends, meeting with his work buddies for coffee, and sharing old-time stories. As a proud girl dad and granddad, he never missed a dance recital or softball game. EJ even coached his daughters' teams and became a “Paw Paw Uber” in retirement, always there to support his grandchildren, Makayla, Marley, and Monroe. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jill Bourgeois Hidalgo; daughters, Mindy Arceneaux (Damon Arceneaux) and Carie Gail Hidalgo; brother, Jules Hidalgo Jr; sisters, Martha Gaudin (Ronnie Gaudin) and Carol Martin (Grant Martin); granddaughters, Makayla, Marley, and Monroe Arceneaux; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
