Katrina “Katie” Bishop slipped quietly into eternity surrounded by her family on October 18, 2023, at the young age of 68. She was born in Tooele, Utah to Elinor and John Hayden on October 3rd, 1955 and was the first of five children, all girls.
While her early years were spent in Glendale, California, Katie’s 5th grade experience was interrupted as the family moved to the East Coast where her father worked as a subcontractor to the Navy in Maryland, Virginia and South Carolina. The frequent moves presented challenges since she was shy, but she excelled at school and found friendships through her involvement in church activities.
In 1973, Katie graduated with honors from high school in Charleston, South Carolina and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She studied clothing and textiles and found a job at the BYU testing center. Thanks to her positive job experience, many of her sisters and daughters followed in her footsteps and provided tests to students at the testing center. BYU is also where she met her future husband, Roy Bishop in October of 1975.
She married Roy in the Manti, Utah temple on August 10, 1976 and over the next six years they welcomed four daughters–Stacey, Heidi, Erica, and Shannon–into the world. Katie was an accomplished homemaker and was dedicated to her family and faith. She enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, quilting, and family history. She happily shared these talents and abilities with friends and family.
Katie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. Over the years, she served in many callings, bringing dedication and excellence to each task and blessing the lives of many with her quiet service.
Her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. Katie taught her daughters to love the Lord and treat others with kindness and respect in word and deed. She knew Jesus and was not afraid of what the future would bring. Keeping covenants and promises made in the Lord’s temple assured her of joy in this life and in the world to come.
Katie was preceded in death by her father, John R Hayden, and her uncle “Bud”. She is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Roy C Bishop; daughters Stacey Smith (Jefferson), Heidi Neeley (Kenneth), Erica Buckwalter (David), Shannon Davis (Christopher); mother, Elinor Hayden; sisters, Julie Shafer, Lucy Haubrock, Melinda Kirby and Holly Hayden; nineteen grandchildren; one great grandchild and countless nieces and nephews.
She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
