Domenic was born in Akron, Ohio and grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts. He proudly served his country as a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Worcester where he met and married the love of his life, Rita Amelia Stasaitis. Domenic and Rita raised their four children in Worcester until 1964 when they moved to Southern California and established their home in Glendora, California.
To all who met him, Domenic was known for his kind and gentle nature, his loving heart, his easy smile, and his love of music. He composed his own music and also loved the music of others. Little time ever passed when he wasn’t singing, humming, or whistling a melody. For Domenic, life came with a soundtrack and he was the musician. Music was in his soul.
Domenic’s family was his reason for living. The relationship between Domenic and Rita was the kind that love stories are written about. They were married for 60+ years and spent most days holding hands and taking care of each other. He also worshipped/loved God and his church and served as a Eucharistic Minister and an original member of the Perpetual Adoration Center at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church for many years.
Domenic was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, and we know he is glad they are together again. He will be deeply missed by his children: son, Louis "Chip" Mercurio (wife, Roz Morrison); son, Dan Mercurio (wife, Gay); daughter, Judi Mercurio Hedden (husband, Lonnie); and daughter, Linda Mercurio Rueter (husband, Rick); his 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora on Friday, April 4, from 5-8:30pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 5, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Dorothy’s Catholic Church in Glendora, and followed by a graveside service at Oakdale Memorial Park.
