Alfred Peter Riehl, 80, of Middle Village, NY passed away on 12/19/2024. Al was born in Brooklyn, on October 04, 1944, to Alfred Riehl and Janet (nee Kiernan) and was raised with his older brother, Robert and his twin sister, Janet, both predeceased. Al grew up playing stickball, and softball and listening to Elvis and Johnny Mathis in the streets of Ridgewood, Queens. He graduated from St. John’s Preparatory High School. It was in these streets that he met and married his beloved wife, Diane (nee Schraft), predeceased.
Al served his country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid during the Vietnam War; and served the City of New York by joining the New York Police Department (NYPD). While serving as a Police Officer, Al continued his education at John Jay College where he earned his bachelor’s degree. It was during this time that Al and Diane settled in Middle Village, Queens and had three daughters, Dawn, Michelle and Heather. After retiring from NYPD, Al continued to work and both he and Diane enjoyed coaching his daughters and their friends’ softball teams. So much so that Al managed a borough wide softball league in Queens for many years. After retiring for a 2nd time, Al and Diane became snowbirds and lived and enjoyed the warmth in The Villages in Florida.
Al is survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Matthew (Anderson), Mark (Mauceri) and Marty (Meyers) and his five grandchildren, Zachary, Hope, Samantha, Isabelle and Kayla.
Visitation will be held at Werst and Labella Funeral Home on Sunday, 12/22/22024 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm in Glendale, NY. Al will be laid to rest in All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village, NY on Monday, 12/23/2024 at 11:00am.
