He grew up in New Jersey, graduating from Ridgefield High School in 1952 and then attended Rutgers University on an athletic scholarship. He was a member of ROTC, and after graduation in 1956, continued on to serve nine years in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot. He was employed as a commercial airline pilot and retired as a captain after 26 years of service. He was an avid reader, loved hiking and exploring, and was a voracious collector of antiques.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ethel and step- daughter Colleen. He is survived by his loving wife Barbra White, daughters Tara and Laura, son Bill, step-daughter Angela, grandchildren Travis, Kelli, Samantha, Makena, Mandy, Alyssa, Cassy, Wesley, Ryan, Tyler, and Rachel and great-grandson Alaric.
