Wanda was born January 29, 1940 in Big Creek, Oklahoma to Orene Mae and Ollie Cantrell Parker. She was the eighth of nine children. Wanda had three sisters & five brothers. She grew up in the Heavener, Oklahoma area. Wanda spent her teenage summers in Glendale AZ and eventually moved there as a young woman. In 1960 she married her husband, David, and had three children. Wanda was a member of the Glendale Church of God where she was the Sunday School teacher for the two & three year olds class for many years.
Wanda worked at various jobs during her lifetime: she was a telephone operator, worked in the cafeteria at her children’s school & Glendale Community College, and as a warehouse worker at Valley Distributing. She later came out of an early retirement to become a reservation agent at Best Western International and finally became a home healthcare worker for Home Instead. Wanda often remarked that her work for Home Instead was the work she enjoyed the most.
Wanda always displayed a Christian spirit but we all know that she could sassy at times as well – and she became sassier as the years went by!! Her grandchildren had the blessing of spending a lot of time with their “Grandma Sugarplum” as she came to be known. They remember her letting them watch the same movies over & over again, climb the tree in the backyard and she always made sure that they had a cookie for BOTH hands!!
Wanda is going to be truly missed by all of us that she left behind: her son Michael and his wife Lin and her daughter Christine and her husband Rick. She has three grandchildren: Chelsea, Calvin & Andy. Wanda recently became a great-grandmother to Chelsea’s daughter Claira Jewel and was expecting a second great granddaughter Evalyne Joyce. Wanda sister Gloria lives in Oklahoma and her niece Carol resides in Mesa, AZ, but she has boatloads of other nieces and nephews that will all miss her as well .
Good-bye Mom!! Say hello to Dad, David, Granny and all of the brother & sisters that are there in heaven waiting for you. Don’t be too disruptive and put in a good word for the rest of us!!! We love you and miss you
