Richard Eugene Smith, a beloved and generous man, passed away on December 6, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on June 24, 1950, in Yakima, Washington, Richard was raised by his grandmother, Winnifred Eagle Smith.
He will be remembered as a man, a father, a husband, and a proud grandfather whose infectious spirit touched many lives. Richard's deep love for his grandchildren served as a boundless source of inspiration for his heartfelt conversations.
Throughout his life, Richard embodied an entrepreneurial spirit as a business owner and long-haul truck driver. His sense of humor and ability to connect with people allowed him to initiate conversations with strangers, bringing instant friendship, love, joy and laughter to his friends around him.
Richard is survived by his two sons, Matthew Smith, Michael Smith, Norman Smith and his younger sister, Carmen Smith. He leaves a remarkable legacy of eleven grandchildren: Kelly, Johnny, Robin, Seth, Devyn, Baylee, Olyvia, Taylor, Noah, Austin, and Nevaeh along with eight great-grandchildren. His beloved dog, Buddy, his constant loving companion, will stay with the family.
Richard’s passing was preceded by his parents and two cherished canine companions, Nipper and Xerxes, who brought him joy and comfort throughout the years.
In the place he cherished most, Phoenix, Arizona, he regularly inspired and uplifted the community around him. His family, friends, and anyone fortunate to know him will deeply miss his remarkable spirit. Helping others brought Richard true happiness and he always believed he was genuinely blessed. Richard always felt deeply grateful to share in the lives of his family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Phoenix Manor, 2636 N. 41st Avenue, Phoenix beginning at 2:00 PM
