Pennie Sue Crouch was born on December 26, 1959 in Phoenix, Arizona to Edward and Joyce Waldrep. She grew up in Phoenix and graduated from Carl Hayden High School in 1977. While in school, Pennie met and then married her high school sweetheart, James Crouch, on June 6, 1977. Together, they raised their children Heather, J.R., and Richard.
While raising their family, Pennie worked in the family-owned business, Ed’s Fish & Chips. At the time, the family had three restaurants in Phoenix, Buckeye, and Avondale. Pennie has successfully owned and operated the only remaining location in Avondale since her mother’s passing in 2009.
Pennie not only ran a successful business, but she loved to sew and quilt. She was active with the Busy Bee and Quilters Anonymous quilters clubs. Every Thursday she had sewing at her house with her friends, which she called “The Sewing Ladies.” Pennie entered many of her quilts at the state fair and won numerous placement ribbons for her pieces. She was very proud of her work and the work of her friends. She had begun teaching her youngest granddaughter how to sew and quilt and was proud of the seven year old’s work.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janet. Pennie is survived by her husband of 46 years, James, her daughter Heather (CJ), sons J.R. (Misty), and Richard (Ai), grandson Robi (Alex), two granddaughters Jillian and Jordyn, one step-grandson Jayce, one great-granddaughter Claudia, sisters Terry and Tammy, brother Eddie, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Pennie will be held at West Resthaven Funeral Home on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 9:00am, with a committal service to follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery.
