Helen Brown, AZ native, beloved wife and incredible mother, left this earth Aug 26, 2017. She was welcomed by our Lord, her sister Sadie and parents Feliciano and Enriqueta Martinez, and her beloved long-time friend and comadre, Pat Lassiter. She is survived by her loving and generous husband Ken Brown, her daughter Felicia, with husband Jim Kelso, three Kelso step grandchildren and two Kelso step great grandchildren, her son, George, with wife Jennifer, and her youngest son, Rick, with wife Danica, two step grandchildren, Alex and Luke, and also her many cousins, nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Helen attended Phoenix Union High School, Phoenix College and Glendale Community College. Her career began right out of high school with the City of Phoenix. She became a highly skilled employee, working with the City Council, Planning & Zoning Department and Real Estate Department, while also acquiring her Real Estate License. Helen was an active member of COPMEA for many years. She retired from the City of Phoenix in 1989. She returned to work at the Catholic Diocese, after brief retirement. She worked in Religious Education and received her certification as a Catechist. She went on to teach Religious Education for over twenty five years, at St. Anthony's, Our Lady of Fatima and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Glendale. Helen tried retirement a second time, but re-entered the workforce once more, as a school secretary for Murphy School District. She was an amazing school secretary for nine years, until her final retirement in 1996. Helen always remained vibrant and active. She played an active part in Our Lady's Guild, volunteered at church, played BUNCO and dominoes, and she loved to dance, especially to her favorite, Elvis Presley. One of her favorite long-time family traditions was going to the family cabin in Show Low, attending the annual 4th of July parade. She was fortunate to have so many wonderful friends in her lifetime. She cared very deeply for Margaret Coury, Lynda Lloyd and the "Fab Four" group; Jill Ziegman, Fran Fitzhugh, Alice Celaya. Helen expressed that her happiest moments in life were with her husband and her children.The family sends special thanks and appreciation to Nurse Jeri Alcocer, and Hospice of the Valley West. Funeral Services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 5614 W. Orangewood Ave, Glendale, Saturday, September 9, 2017. Rosary at 9:30 am, Mass at 10:00 am, and a potluck celebration reception in O.L.P.H. Hall.
