George S. Marquez Sr. (83) of Peoria, Az. went to be with our heavenly father, Thursday, October 11, 2018. Born on February 22, 1935 to Manuel & Guadalupe Marquez of Glendale Az. He was the second youngest member of 8 children pre-deceased by Manuel Jr., Steve, Nick, Socorro, Martha, Maria Elena and survived by Lalo. He married the love of his life, Connie Vidales on June 23, 1957 and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage until her passing on February 20, 2012.
He is survived by his 4 children: George Jr., Sylvia, Christina (Manuel) and Elizabeth (Peter), 8 grandchildren: Georgie III (Jeneh),David, Ashley (Derek), Breanna, Gabrielle, Manuel Jr., Catriana and Dalanie and 1 great-grandchild Connor David.
He began his career in construction and enjoyed achieving his goal of becoming a successful contractor for his own construction company G.S.M. Construction in January, 1984 until his retirement in 2007. Another one of Dad's dreams was accomplished in 1976 when we moved into our beautiful home that Dad designed
and built for us. Words cannot express the sorrow and disbelief we feel as we mourn the loss of our Hero.
Dad was a friend to all, gentle, kind, loving, genuine, smart, humble, funny, hip, strong, encouraging, wise, forgiving, a great provider and a man of great faith. He loved each one of us unconditionally and always encouraged us to achieve our goals. We spent every Sunday coming back to our home with Dad, enjoying his amazing menudo, delicious homemade chorizo, reading the paper, listening to music and his stories, eating lots of desserts and candy which were Dad's favorite, watching the Lawrence Welk Show and movies the grandkids chose to watch. Dad was our rock and held us close as we mourned the loss of mom 6 years ago and did all he could to help each one of us heal, from making a pot of coffee at 2 a.m. every morning for George Jr., to receiving early morning phone calls from his daughters to provide comfort.
His beautiful smile, kind heart, listening ear, gentle embraces and encouraging words will be sorely missed by his loved ones. He has left beautiful memories, words of wisdom and a piece of himself in each one of us and his memory will live on. Until we meet again, we love you.
