Doris Sheldon of Glendale went home to be with her Lord on Monday May 5th at the age of 94. Born to George and Martha Basara on January 10th, 1920, she grew up in Chicago Illinois and spent many summers on the family dairy farm in Indiana. Doris married Reagan Sheldon November 13th, 1943 when he was a seminary student at Northern Baptist Seminary. They were married for 62 years before his passing in 2005. Doris attended Wheaton College while Reagan was in the service during WWII. She was the mother of five children and spent a busy life as full-time mother, pastor’s wife, church secretary, pianist, organist, Sunday School teacher and all around organizer, all full time jobs on their own. She also worked as a school librarian. As a couple Doris and Reagan had an impact in churches in Illinois, Arizona, Wisconsin, Ohio, Arizona again, California and back to Arizona. She will be greatly missed by her surviving 5 children, daughters Nancy Sheldon, Carol Sheldon, Joyce Yarber (husband Michael), and sons David Sheldon (wife Audrey), and John Sheldon (wife Jeanie) as well as her 6 grandchildren Michelle Francis, Chris Yarber, Joshua Sheldon, Tim Sheldon, Emily Sheldon and Beth Williams. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Friday May 9th at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7934 N. 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday May 10th at Apollo Baptist Church, 11611 North 51st Avenue, Glendale AZ. Internment will take place at Phoenix Memorial Park next to her beloved husband Reagan.
