Age 84, passed away on July 18, 2012. Carl was born on July 11, 1926 in Elyria, Ohio to Frank Sauer and Frieda Kolonick at 4 AM in the morning, which set the stage for the rest of his life as an early riser and a man with a very strong work ethic who did not believe in burning daylight. Carl was one of 5 brothers and 3 sisters, he grew up in the general area of Elyria, as a youth he helped with the family farm and for fun he raced motorcycles and dirt track auto racing. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, where the tempurature got as low as 100 degrees below zero, it made an impact on him which is probably why he visited Arizona. Carl was crossing through Arizona in 1956 when he met Frances Lira. They were married on November 25, 1956. He worked in the floor covering business most of his career, in various capacities, including operating his own business, project manager, supervisor, Senior Accountant, and Accounting Supervisor. Carl was a hard worker who was always up at the crack of dawn; a man who was as good as his word. You could always count on him doing what he told you. He retired in 1990 after a successful career with Letco Floor Covering. Carl was a devoted husband, who cared for his wife after she suffered a stroke. Carl was very active even at 84 he performed all of his year work and perform repairs around the house. He was always there for his children, always making time for us no matter how busy he was. He was a loving father and grandfather, and is survived by three children, ten grandchildren and two younger sisters, Dorothy and Delores, we will all miss him dearly. Carl enjoyed watching sports, football, and UFC with his family. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Thursday, July 26 at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale.
