Alice J. Schilling, 89 of Phoenix, AZ was born on January 31, 1932 in Dupo, Illinois. She started her New Life Journey with Christ in Heaven on Monday, October 18, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by family.
Alice was known by many names: Mom to her 6 children, Granny to her 19 Grandchildren, 20 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren. For whom she spent as much time as possible attending their sporting events, concerts, other special events, hospital stays and birthdays faithfully.
Aunt Pat, a nickname used by the numerous relatives in and around Illinois.
MHS Mom, Maryvale Mom, Mom/Grandma Schilling to the many coaches, student-athletes, JROTC and Band Members of Maryvale High School; since about 1970, where she attended numerous events and even received awards for her passion and dedication to their programs. She attended her last Homecoming Football Game 2 days prior to her passing.
Ms. Alice to Faculty, Staff and students of John F. Long Elementary School in Phoenix, where she was a volunteer for a few years prior to being employed as Teacher’s Aide for 25 years until she retired at the age of 85. Teachers would always request for her to help with Ginger Bread House Making for the Holidays. She also attended many Cartwright School District events through the years. Mrs. Schilling to Faculty, Staff and students of John W. Powell Elementary School in Phoenix, where she spent many years as a volunteer “Room Mother” for all her children that attended there. She was also their PTA President and served as a Regional PTA Treasurer.
Alice to her friends, neighbors, Grace Lutheran Church family and to the members of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1433 in Glendale, AZ; where she served as President and a Life Member.
She was an extremely passionate fan of the Phoenix Suns and she loved the color Purple. She also enjoyed watching any Arizona Professional or College Sports Teams on TV and was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers. She loved camping as much as possible in the mountains of Arizona. She decorated cakes, enjoyed sewing and doing crafts at home and in the classroom.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Schilling; her parents, Charles M. and Elizabeth Crouch. Her brothers: Charles, James, Elmer, Walter, Frank and John Crouch; her sisters Virginia Stocker, Mary E. Meyer and the twins; her Grandson: TJ Moser, Granddaughter: Dawn Schilling and Great- Granddaughter: Penelope DeLaGarza.
Alice is survived by her sons: Paul A. (Dona), Herbert (Cindy), Roger (Debra), Ricki (Phyllis), Larry and daughter Sharon (Brad) Moser. Grandchildren: Patricia A. Schilling, Laura (Ryan) Batcheller, Kathryn (Eric) Fangman, Summer Schilling, Nichole (Ralph) DeLaGarza, Angelica (Edward) Mertens III, Anthony Moser, Leiana (Taylor) Hokanson, Sheridan Schilling, Sara (Daniel) Rodriguez, Danae Schilling, Jamie (Brent) Morrison, Lance (Jennifer Martinez) Schilling, Delaney Schilling, Chance Schilling, Dustin Moser and Sammy Schilling. Great-Grandchildren: Jordan Schilling; Charlie and Aiden Batcheller; Kaylee and Austin Fangman; Emillia, Penelope and Lillian Mertens; Christian, Noah and Jacob DeLaGarza; Adam and Elliot Hokanson; Eva Lara, Mia and Elias Rodriguez, Aiden Martinez Schilling; Ryker and Asher Morrison; and 2 Great Great-Grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Alice on November 20, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church located at 1124 N. 3rd Street Phoenix, Arizona 85004 at 10AM. We ask that you bring a single flower to place with Alice in her favorite sports teams’ colors. Black & Gold, Purple & Orange, and Red & White. In Lieu of Floral Arrangements, Tax Credit Donations may be made to Maryvale High School for any of their band or sports programs in Alice’s name.
