William Edgar Cain

Bill was born on 7-23-1936 in New Albany, IN to William and Dorothy (Fogarty) Cain. Bill married MaryLou (Champy) Cain in 1962. They shared 60 years together. The couple had 3 children. Bill began his career with the L&N RR at the So. Louisville Shops at age 16 and moved through the takeovers to CSX, ultimately retiring from the GE Railcar division in Kansas City, MO.

Bill valued family, immediate and extended. We, as family, will forever recall his many acts of service. He was a devoted spouse and father. His love and council will be greatly missed. Bill enjoyed two closely related hobbies, fishing and telling stories. He excelled at both.

Bill valued hard work. He started early as an electrician’s apprentice for the railroad. He worked many side jobs, framing and wiring houses, while working full time. Bill studied at U of L for 1yr, while juggling work and family. He had many accomplishments in his career and served as Plant Manager before his second retirement.

Bill was a skilled craftsman at woodworking, laying tile and painting. He could accomplish most any home repair project, restore antique lamps and fix devices, mechanical or electrical. Bill was good at whatever he set his mind to do.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Jim Cain (New Albany, IN), Joan Porter Landall (Deland, FL), Diane Herold (Louisville, KY) and nephew, Kieran Cain (Louisville, KY).

He is survived by his wife, MaryLou Cain in Kansas City, MO; Children, Billy and Todd Cain in Kansas City, MO and Cheryl Cleveland (Jay) and 1 grandchild, Madison Cleveland of Conway, AR; Siblings, Sharon Goodbub in St. Petersburg, FL, Velma Givan (Eddie), Dale Cain (Rita) and Mary Cain, all of Louisville, KY and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Wexford Place, Ascend Hospice and Legacy Healthcare for their compassion and exceptional care.

Oct.17, 2022 will begin at 10:30am with the Rosary. The Memorial Mass will be 11am-12pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you plant a tree in remembrance, donate to a charity of your choice, or have a mass said. Flowers would have to arrive to the church early Monday prior to the service (before 9am).
