Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Rodney managed his multiple cancer diagnoses with stubbornness and grit. On his final day, he was surrounded by his family and passed with his wife and daughter by his side.
Rodney was born to parents Bobbie Joe Wells and Ruby Jewel (Boyd) Wells in June 1958 in North Kansas City, Missouri. Rodney graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1976. While attending high school, he apprenticed to become a master tradesman in Drywall installation and finishing. He went on to use those skills and other trade skills he learned to support his family.
Rodney met the love of his life, Tamera Lois (Whitten) Wells, at his graduation party. And they were married in 1978. Rodney is also survived by his daughter AnJanet Doehling and husband Morgan of Eagle River, Alaska, son Brad Wells of Gladstone, Missouri, son Chris Wells and wife Lindsay of Kansas City, Missouri, son David Wells of Gladstone Missouri, grandchildren Eliana, Cael and Parker Doehling, Alex and Paisley Wells, sister Ellen “Kathy” Mills of Monnett, Missouri, brother Mark Wells of Fairview, Missouri, as well as many other loved ones. Rodney was preceded in death by parents Bobbie and Ruby Wells, and sister Vickie Mills.
Rodney was ornery and a jokester, even “picking on” the nurses in his last days. He had a contagious belly laugh and great smile. He was talented in many fields such as drywall, flooring, home repair, electrical, plumbing and car mechanics. And he was generous with his talents, helping family, friends, and even people he barely knew. He loved watching a variety of sports including Football (GO CHIEFS!!), Baseball (GO ROYALS!!), golf, bowling and Nascar. He also loved fishing, golfing and bowling. Even bowling multiple “300” games. He loved a cold Bud Light, a good steak, a glass of Jack ‘n Coke, and a good fish fry. But most of all he loved his family and multitude of friends.
