Graduated from Westport High School in 1959 shortly before enlisting in the Marine Corps where he was stationed in Twentynine Palms, California.
Bob then worked as a package car driver at UPS for many years before moving to El Paso, Texas. He followed his passion for martial arts as owner, operator and 5th degree blackbelt of Westside Martial Arts in Texas. Bob and Linda returned to Kansas City from Texas in 2008 to be close to family. “Mr. Bob” drove a school bus for Liberty School District and received the “Pay it Forward” community award for his commitment to the kids.
Bob had the ability to make friends wherever he lived and those relationships will never be forgotten. He was wholeheartedly dedicated to anything he set his sights on, and often that was simply making those around him laugh. He loved the game of pool, dancing, and all things cowboy. Forever the protector, his family lovingly refers to his home as “Fort Knox” with his legacy continued through his guard dog, Stella.
Preceded in death by his mother and father Walter and Geneva Chrane, and son Justin Chrane.
Survived by his wife Linda, daughter Kristine Ferrara (Chuck), son Rex West (Genevieve), granddaughters Paige Hedberg (Riley), Kaitlyn Ferrara (Kyle), and Lily Ferrara as well as his great-granddaughter Clara. Twin sister Francis Knoblich (Chuck), brother Bill Chrane (Kathy), Nieces Andrea Seda (Kevin) & Jennifer McEwen (Scott) and multiple great nieces & nephews.
Bob’s motto to live by, which is displayed on a plaque in his hand-built saloon: Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, taco in one hand, a Crown and Coke in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ‘WOO HOO, what a ride!’
Services will be finalized at a later date.
