He was born on December 23, 1946, to the late, John W. Smith and Dorothy Dolan.
RJ was a passionate businessman and the proud owner of MarCon Marketing Concepts, where he built a reputation for integrity and excellence. He was also a dedicated drag racer, achieving significant success throughout his career, including two Division 5 Top Alcohol Dragster Championships and twice ranking #9 in the world. His competitive spirit on the track was matched only by his warmth and generosity off it.
When he wasn’t racing, RJ loved spending time in his shop, tinkering with his sons and sharing in their love for working on projects together. Those moments, filled with laughter, hard work, and learning, were among the most treasured of his life.
Beyond his work and hobbies, RJ was deeply committed to his family and friends. He spent many joyful weekends at the Lake of the Ozarks, creating cherished memories with his loved ones. His love for the lake symbolized his zest for life and devotion to making moments that would last forever.
RJ is survived by his brother, Rick Smith; his sister, Sharon Wells; and his children: Randall Smith II (wife, Yvonne), Bill Sandidge (wife, Amber), Shane Smith, Natalie Smith, Audrey Smith, Claire Smith, and Julia Smith. He was also a proud grandfather to Jonathan Sandidge and Mackenzie Smith.
A loving, caring, and steadfast figure, RJ will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, strength, and love for both family and his passions will live on.
A celebration of RJ’s life will be held on Saturday February 22, 2025, at Cascone's Restaurant (3737 N Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, Missouri 64116) from 12-3 PM.
The Family respectfully request no flowers or donations.
