Kathryn A. Hake was born on July 17th, 1927, to Maurice and Marie Childs in Kansas City, Missouri. Katey was strong. Losing her father early in her life, meant her mother worked and her aunt raised her. Joyous times and long trips on the streetcar and a cherished burger and fries at Winstead’s were some of her greatest childhood memories.
Education was a passion. A lot of glass ceilings were there to be broken. She graduated from Avila College early in a very tumultuous time in America. She took a job as administrative assistant for the CEO at a fast- growing company named Hall’s. She was always a hard worker and forged her strength in an entrepreneurial environment.
Soon World War II broke out. After World War II, on a blind date she met her loving husband to be, Harold. They were married on December 27, 1947. The wedding was attended by friends and family who helped them meet and whose friendships lasted their entire life. A marriage truly born of love; it would last nearly 68 years. Shortly after the marriage, Harold began working at Ford Motor Company at the plant in Claycomo and moved the family to Gladstone, Mo. Katey began her first tenure as a teacher at St Charles. Large classes did not deter her mission to teach, but the family dog Toby, eating the student’s lunches may have. She had a second tenure teaching social studies at Linden West. Katey never tired of the basics insisting on mastering language, geography, and history.
During those years Harold and Kathryn would be blessed with four children. They had three beautiful daughters Kathleen, Rosalyn and Jackie, along with a son, Jim. Her children will always remember her as a devoted, caring and compassionate mother.
Kathryn was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and had been a member of St Andrew’s Parish since 1973. She had a special devotion and faith.
She is survived by her four children, Kathleen Pinkham, Rosalyn (Richard) McKeague, Jim (Sharon) Hake, Jackie (Rick) Poeschl, eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, along with many other family members and friends. Kathryn was predeceased by her husband Harold and son-in-law Kelly.
A visitation and mass will be held on October 24, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St Andrew’s Parish, 6415 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, MO 64119.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Knights of Columbus or St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Parish.
