James “Jim” Clarence Stinnett of Welda, Kansas, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a life well lived. Jim was born in Dayton, Tennessee, to Luther and Gladys Stinnett. Jim was the sixth in a family of 11 children. As a youth Jim enjoyed playing football, baseball, dancing and farming. Jim took many of these interests into his adult life as a little league coach and teaching his grandchildren to polka. Jim was an avid farmer and loved spending time in the fields with his cattle, chickens, geese, peacocks and llamas.
Jim never knew a stranger and never let anyone walk alone. He “adopted” numerous neighborhood children as grandchildren. Jim loved deeply, lived passionately, and never backed away from a political argument. Jim also loved sharing his faith in Jesus with anyone who would listen to his stories. Jim loved Jesus to the end and told his children that when he went to heaven he couldn’t wait to “hug and kiss your mom for two whole days..”
Jim leaves behind a legacy of many people who loved him. Jim is survived by his three children, Ted Stinnett, Linda Caviness, and Carmelita Filyaw. He is also survived by one brother, Charles “Corky” Stinnett, one sister, Martha “Evon” LeBlanc, 18 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy, his second wife, Ellen, and his last wife, Janelle.
Services and burial will be held on Saturday, July 13, 1:30 PM, at the Newcomers White Chapel Funeral Home and cemetery in Gladstone, MO.
