It is with heavy hearts that the family of Esperanza “Hope” Maria Lopez share with you the passing of our beloved family matriarch. Esperanza transitioned into our Lord's hands peacefully in her sleep on September 14, 2023 at the age of 88.
Esperanza was born on May 14, 1935 to Melicio Luna and Carmen Acevedo. She had seven siblings; Alfonso, Delfinia, Felecia, Pomposa, Holeta, Teresa, Lupe. She grew up in Emporia, KS. Esperanza met and fell in love with Reyes Lopez, son of Sylvestre and Damacia Lopez. They were married on November 21, 1953. Truly a lifelong love that lasted through richer or poorer, better or worse, sickness and health, for 69 years! However, Esperanza’s greatest love was raising her three children and being a grandmother. She was always so excited and proud to cheer her grandsons on, attending sporting events, concerts, plays and graduations. Whatever the circumstances, she was there to love and support her grandchildren completely.
Esperanza loved to cook, do crafts, sew, crochet and bowl. Her purpose in life was to serve the Lord, love and give unconditionally. She knew no strangers and was always eager to help someone in need. She was an avid member of St. Andrew Apostle Catholic Church. She volunteered to clean the rectory for many years and attended several groups.
Esperanza was preceded in death by her husband, Reyes Lopez; son, Robert Lopez; parents, Melicio and Carmen Luna; siblings, Alfonso Luna, Delfinia Rangel, Felecia Delgado, Pomposa Luna, Holeta Fonseca, Teresa Ybarra and Lupe Luna.
Esperanza is survived by her daughter, Carol Anderson; grandsons, Jaeden Anderson, Jaren Anderson and Jaez Anderson; son, Mark Lopez; along with nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
