She was born to Robert Loyd and Evelyn Marie (Williams) Wood on January 1, 1965, in Carrollton, Missouri. Doris pursued a bachelor's degree in accounting at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, and graduated in 1988. In Kansas City, Doris worked 34 years for Shinn Fu Company of America, Inc. in the accounting department, and was promoted early on as their Chief Accountant.
Doris married Scott Adwell on November 26, 1987 at the Gallatin United Methodist Church and was married until 2012. The couple had two children named Lindsey and Amber. Her children remember her as a nurturing, patient, and loving mother who encouraged them in every aspect of their lives. There wasn't a concert or event of theirs that she missed. Doris was known for telling witty jokes and bringing laughter to rooms full of people. She was a joyful individual who loved her family, and was passionate about her faith, friends, music, Hallmark Channel movies, and Chiefs games. For 34 years, she was an active and dedicated member of the McMurry United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and Praise Band, attended Cursillo events, routinely participated in Bible Study, and volunteered as a counselor for church camp and Vacation Bible School, among other activities.
She was preceded in death by Robert (father), Evelyn (mother), Diane (sister) Tracy (godmother to her children and cousin), and Bryndin (great nephew).
Doris is survived by Scott; her children, Lindsey and Amber (Jonathan); siblings, Donna (Cliff), David, Darla (Joel), Dean and Debra (Larry); and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, and great great nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses at North Kansas City Hospital for their kindness and care.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on December 28th at 1 pm at McMurry United Methodist Church in Claycomo, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to McMurry Memorial Fund or World Vision.
