Don J. (Joe) Nunn, age 92, passed away November 16, 2024. Joe was born on June 7, 1932, in Cherokee, Kansas and moved to Pittsburg, Kansas at age 9. He graduated from College High School and attended Oklahoma A & M on a football scholarship. He married Sandra Wehmeyer at Central Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 3, 1955.
He was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy, stationed on a ship in the Marshall Islands during nuclear testing on the islands of Bikini and Enewetak. Upon returning, he joined Bayer in 1959, retiring in 1994, after 35 years of employment as a Plant Supervisor.
Joe was a talented athlete, excelling in basketball, baseball, swimming, tennis and boxing in the Golden Gloves. His many hobbies included woodworking, photography, golf, umpiring, and Boy Scouts, serving as Scout Master, an honorary member of Mic-O-Say, and teaching ‘sinkers’ to swim at Scout camp.
Joe lived his life as a faithful believer, following His command to love God and neighbor. Joe was devoted to family, was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren, especially their sporting events and vacations.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Mathey Nunn; his mother, Emma Lena (Hale) Nunn; his brothers, Silas, Bill, Tom, Dick, Bob and Jim; two sisters, Dorothy and Delora.
Joe is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sandra Nunn; his son, Jeff (Terry) Nunn; his daughter, Candy Colvin; his grandchildren, Jason (Annie), Katy, Blake, Molly, Betsy (Nick), Brad, and Grant; step-grandchildren, Caitlin and John; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Ayden, Henley, and Finnley.
There will be a Celebration of Life at North Cross United Methodist Church at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Cross United Methodist Church or to the Wounded Warriors, and can be left in the care of White Chaple Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri, 64119.
