It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister Theresa Marie (Jones) Boyd who passed through into the arms of Jesus surrounded by her loving family on October 5, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Mom was born in Glace Bay on January 8, 1942 to the late Jeanette (Clarke) and Frederick Jones. She was predeceased by the love of her life , her husband and our father, John Thomas Boyd (Glace Bay). Mom will be missed by her children Nancy (Glace Bay), Deborah Boyd-Crowther (Gerald) and Donald (Ashley), both of Sydney. Mom grew up in a large family which inspired her values of courage, strength, determination and devotion to one another. Mom was predeceased by brothers Frederick, Joseph, Hubert, Allan, Calvin and John (infancy) ; sisters Nell and Elizabeth (infancy). Surviving is her sister and best friend Shirley MacKenzie (Glace Bay) and her brothers Arthur (Eileen), Kent (both of Ontario) and Barry (Gloria) of Lingan. Mom will always be our first love who taught us how to love and be loved. She loved her son-in-law Gerald and her daughter-in-law Ashley like they were her own children. Mom would often say that her children are her gold and she constantly told us daily that she loved us and was proud of each and every one. The happiest days in her life was when she became a grandmother to her grandson and to her granddaughter, Sarah Crowther. Mom is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mom was a very talented musician, speaker, and had a very sharp wit as well as being a good judge of character. She was always willing to help others and no doubt, all of those traits manifested in us, her children. We will all miss her smile, stories, teachings, conversations, and humour. A tremendous void has been left in the hearts of those left to grieve. However, we all know our mother would want us to carry on, keep helping others, know that she is with her loved ones again, and continue to do the “Lord’s work”, which was her way of referring to the acts of kindness.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the nursing staff of 3 West in Glace Bay, and the exemplary care from the ICU staff (Sydney); Dr. D. MacLaughlin, Dr. MacNeil, Dr. Wong, Dr. Brake and Dr. Hebb.
For those who love with heart and soul, it is not goodbye mom but so long for now. Go dancing with dad. No curfew, stay out and have as much fun as you can. The kids are alright and we’ll see ya when we get home. We love you.
In accordance with mom’s wishes a private celebration of life will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Glace Bay under the direction of Patten Funeral Home.
