Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of Robert Leslie Truckair on November 16,2016 at the Glace bay Hospital with loving family at his side.
Born in Glace Bay he was the son of Lambert and Elsie (MacLeod) Truckair.
Bob was a self-employed Boat Captain/Fisherman, fishing all over the coasts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and he enjoyed every day out on the water. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 3 and the Glace Bay Harbor Authority.
He had a very strong passion for fishing, his idea of a vacation was packing up a few friends and grandkids and heading either to the coast of Dingwall or the coast of Halifax to go Sword Fishing. Over the last few years he has grown a passion for family vacations travelling down south and building new vacation memories.
Bob started fishing on his own at the age of 16, where he fished lobster and long-lined. In 1975 Bob went to work for the Cadegan’s at Highland Fisheries where he tuned his ability for offshore mobile fishing. In 1983 he purchased his first offshore fishing vessel “ Musn’t Tell” which really jumpstarted the rest of his career. In 1991, he built the “Glace Bay Lady” and continued in the ground fishery until 1996 when he then fished with his sons in snow crab industry. In 2009 Bob took his 3 grandsons under his wing teaching them the importance of how to fish and run a rig. He always wanted the kids to learn and keep fishing in the family blood. Fishing was not a job for Bob but something he loved to do everyday. He was always willing to help someone out in any way he could. He will be missed by the entire fishing community.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Esther; sons Robert (Tanyia), Dennis, Bradley; grandchildren Logan, Mason, Nicholas and Chelsey; daughter in law Barbara Wells; parents Lambert and Elsie Truckair; sister Brenda (Roger) Gosselin; brothers Wesley (Helen) and Joseph (Yeng); special daughter Shawna and his dog Cappy.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Monday November 21,2016 from 2-3pm at Patten Funeral Home 71 Union St, Glace Bay, Funeral Service will follow at 3pm in Patten funeral Home Chapel with rev. Vernon Reid officiating.
