Better known as "Papa Bob", he was born in Glace Bay on July 16th 1937 to the late Charles and Elizabeth Davies. He worked as a coal miner for 37 years spending most of his career at #20, #26 and Lingan Phalen collieries.
In 1957, Papa Bob married the love of his life Dorothy. They built their lives in Donkin where he was a proud member of the community and he and Dorothy raised their two children, Robert and Charlene. Papa Bob was a member of the Donkin volunteer fire department, the Port Morien wildlife association and was an active volunteer for the Vince Ryan Memorial Hockey Tournament. He was an avid bowler and past member of Devco Colliery Bowling League. He and Dorothy enjoyed travelling in their retirement years, making memories in some of their favorite places like Myrtle Beach and Florida. He spent many afternoons and evenings watching his beloved Blue Jay's play and enjoyed watching curling during the winter months. Papa Bob never turned down a game of cards, especially Rummoli and Crib. He loved long days in the woods hunting or by a lake fishing with his brothers and friends. Papa Bob’s pride and joy were his grandchildren and great- grandchildren who he never passed an opportunity to talk about.
Papa Bob is survived by his daughter Charlene (Richie) Green and daughter- in- law Wendy Davies; Grandchildren Mark (Michelle Parsons) Green, Lisa (Shane) Harte, Melissa (Daniel Howie) Davies, Jennifer (Tracy) Boyce; 7 great-grandchildren Gracie, Allie Kate, Harper, Emmie, Walker, Jake and Austyn. He is also survived by brother Jim Davies, sister - in - law Myrna Davies, brother - in - law Art LeGrow and many nieces, nephews and cousins and special family friend Deanna Harvey.
Papa was predeceased by wife Dorothy, son Robert, mother and father Liz and Charlie, brother Fred, sisters - in - law Martha Davies and Lillian LeGrow.
